Linda Gamst Psychotherapy
Providing counseling services to children, adolescents, and adults. Services include individual, family, and couple’s psychotherapy.
My Approach to Therapy
When working with children ages 4 to 11 years old, I use play therapy which includes a combination of non-directive and directive approaches. I typically collaborate with parents regarding goal setting and behavior planning. As indicated, family therapy may be used to support relational growth between the various dyads such as parent-child, sibling, or co-parent challenges.
Kids & Teens
When working with pre-teens and teenagers I use solution-focused, cognitive-behavioral, and insight-oriented approaches to maximize self-awareness, improve relationships between self and other, and to explore the complex issues that present as part of their emerging identity development. The therapeutic environment is designed to provide a safe space where clients can sort through personal conflict free of judgement, with a trained professional who can help guide the exploration process and encourage successful outcomes so clients can become their best self.
Families
Family therapy can be complex. I collaborate with family members to determine the goals they hope to achieve. During our work together, we will explore the complex dynamics of family relationships, work towards increasing awareness, and improve communication that enhances family functioning, in line with each family’s goals and values. Treatment plans are tailored to the unique needs of each individual client and the family.
Couples
For couples therapy I have training and experience using a psychobiological approach to couples therapy (PACT). During our work together, we explore not only the issues that bring couples to therapy but the underlying attachment styles, neurobiological forces and prior experiences that may contribute and work to maintain maladaptive patterns of communication that result in dissatisfaction and unmet needs.
Individuals
My approach to working with adults is person-centered and tailored to the unique needs of the individual client. Modalities generally include cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, insight oriented, and solution-focused approaches. The therapeutic environment is structured to provide a safe place with a trusted professional where clients can explore the experiences that brought them to therapy. The therapeutic process provides an ongoing opportunity for self-discovery and healing. For many clients it is a time to work on personal growth, increase self-awareness and gain a deeper understanding and acceptance of self and their relationship with others.
